The Meadville Area Water Authority (MAWA) and American Water (AW) are very proactive in providing public education to our customers.  Since 1999, we have provided source water protection education to our area schools and to our local citizens and decision makers, in order to make everyone aware of the importance of protecting and improving the community’s drinking water source which is located in the French Creek Watershed.  Through grant money, we have purchased equipment and educational materials to use in this educational outreach.

Each year, during National Drinking Water Week (the first full week in May), the Meadville Area Water Authority and American Water present source water protection to the 6th grade classes at the following schools:  First District, Second District, East End, West End, Neason Hill, and Conneaut Elementary Schools, as well as Seton Catholic School.  And each year, the students are asked to participate in a poster contest, demonstrating something that they have learned.  The students of the winning posters receive prizes donated by area businesses that understand and support the value of this source water protection education.
